
Ukrainian Guards Captain Ivan Vasilievich Poyarko served as battalion commander of the 148th Guards Rifle Regiment, 50th Guards Rifle Division, 3rd Guards Army, Stalingrad Front. From Kiev to Stalingrad, he displayed exceptional bravery. In 1941 at Kiev, he ambushed enemy forces, captured two prisoners, killed 17, and took 11 captive. In 1942 at Stalingrad, he seized 47 cannons, 100 horses, and captured 200 Germans. Highly decorated, he later became Director of Krasny Liman Trade Department.
