The 50th Howitzer Artillery Brigade, under the command of Colonel Gordiy, during the breakthrough of the German defenses on the Sandomierz bridgehead, was part of the artillery reinforcement of the 32nd Guards Rifle Corps.
Comrade Gordiy excellently developed the plan for the artillery offensive and delivered the task down to the battery commanders.
During the artillery preparation period, the brigade’s fire suppressed all planned enemy firing points and disrupted the enemy’s command system. With fire support from the brigade, on the first day of the battle, units of the 32nd Guards Rifle Corps broke through the main German defensive line and advanced 15 km into the depth.
